On Wednesday, September 19th, the Spartans and Wyoming Sem faced off in a huge game called “Key to Kingston”. “This game is called ‘Key to Kingston’ because both of our fields are located in Kingston”, said Senior Karaline Stelma. The Spartans are so determined to beat Sem because of all the talk of recruiting for the school. “They have three to four former WVW players on their team so it’s always a big deal for us”, said Stelma.

The game started at 7:00pm at Sem’s home field, Nesbitt Stadium. The game was close until Sem scored a goal to take a lead with fourteen mins left of the half. The Spartans held them to one goal until the last ten seconds of the half. Sem scored one more goal with less than five seconds left to take the 2-0 lead at halftime. Sydney Rushnock had one save in the first half.

The Spartans had many shots on goal but couldn’t get it in the goal. In the second half, Rina Tsioles came out and tried to weave her way through Sem’s defense but she couldn’t do it on her own.

The Spartans had more opportunities to score in the second half then in the first. They had four corners but couldn’t find an opening in the net to score.

The Spartans let in two more goals to give Sem a 4-0 win.

The Spartans aren’t done yet. They are going to face Sem again in Districts. “I think if we just work on mental strength we can beat them”, says Junior Rory Evans. “We have physical strength, just no mental strength. We have a strong offense and defense, they only have a strong forward line.”
