Tom Brady Retires
February 9, 2023
Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr., also known as Tom Brady, is now a former quarterback. He played in the national football league for 23 seasons, spending his first 22 seasons with the New England Patriots.
Brady announced his retirement at age 44 for, hopefully, the last time, after saying he was retiring in February of 2022. Brady then decided he wasn’t ready to retire and rejoined the NFL, signing a 1 year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady says his official retirement is due to family and health, having divorced his long-time supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, in October of 2022.
Brady was a multisport athlete throughout high school, excelling in both baseball and football. He did not start playing football until he was a junior in high school.
He entered the Major League baseball draft in 1995. He was picked by the Montreal Pros, but he decided to attend the University of Michigan instead and play football rather than pursuing baseball.
Brady had led Michigan to victory in the 1999 Orange Bowl. That is when he gained his reputation as a determined and intelligent player.
In 2000, Brady was chosen in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the New England Patriots. In 2001, the quarterback of the New England Patriots Drew Bledsoe was injured and Tom was chosen to fill the position. He was not playing 100% but he was improving. While Brady was the quarterback the Patriots, went on 11-3 record in the regular season.
Brady has played most NFL games at quarterback. He has 7 super bowl wins: 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, and 2019. He was named the game’s most valuable player (MVP) 2001, 2002, 2004, 2015, 2017, and 2021.
Brady continued his first 22 seasons with the New England Patriots as their starting quarterback. He then “retired” as a Patriot but decided he was not finished with his football career and signed a 1 year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His first season with them was a success, they won 11 games and a playoff spot.
Brady’s last game was a 31-14 to the Dallas cowboys. He had an amazing football career and will be known forever in the football and sports industry.
