Two Successful WVW Athletes Hit Milestones

On October 7th and 16th of 2024, two Division 1 committed athletes, Lola Wojciechowski and Laila Zdancewicz, reached two major milestones of 100 career goals and 75 career goals respectively.

“Excited and relieved. You try not to focus on a goal like that but it’s hard as you’re approaching it, to block it out and just focus on good soccer,” senior Lola Wojciechowski said.

Lola Wojciechowski, a senior in the Class of 2025, has been playing soccer for the last 11 years, six of which have been with the Lady Spartans. She started on varsity since her freshman year and has been a captain her junior and senior years.

Wojciechowski said, “A lot of time and energy and sacrifice has been made by me and my family. I travel all over the United States for tournaments and games.”

Wojciechowski has trained hard over her years of playing so far and it shows on and off the field. Recently, she reached the milestone of 100 career goals for Wyoming Valley West, which broke the school record of 99 career goals. She now holds the school record at 104 career goals.

Wojciechowski said, “I felt really excited to leave my mark on a team that has made such an impact on my life.”

When she is not on the field, some of her other interests are violin, drawing, and snowboarding. She is also involved in the Aevidum Club. The Aevidum Club is a mental health awareness program.

Wojciechowski says, “It has been impactful for me in showing that I have a passion for listening to people’s stories.”

After graduating, she plans on attending Syracuse University to continue her athletic career playing Division 1 soccer and to major in Biology to become an Orthodontist.

Wojciechowski said, “I’m anxious and excited about college because I know it’s going to be a big change.”

Her other achievements include helping win Districts as a sophomore, making Citizens Voice Athlete of the Year during her sophomore and senior year, making MaxPreps Pennsylvania Player of the Week in November, and making All-State as a junior and senior.

Wojciechowski said, “I’m proud of all my achievements but I do work really hard so I feel satisfied that my hard work pays off.”

WVW’s other star athlete is Laila Zdancewicz.  She has played field hockey for 6 years, and has accomplished a lot in her seasons. She has been a four-year varsity starter and her past two seasons, she captained the Spartans.

“I wanted to pick a sport to stick with throughout middle and high school and field hockey was the sport that interested me the most and I loved it from the second I played it for the first time”, senior Zdancewicz said.

When Laila doesn’t have a stick in her hand, she enjoys running track and being involved in school clubs. The school clubs she is involved in are Class of 2025 and the Ski Club

Zdancewicz says, “I enjoy running track because it keeps me in shape for field hockey and the atmosphere is always fun and positive.”

When she is not on the Spartan Stadium, she puts in extra work at Electric Surge to improve her performance. All of the time she puts in definitely pays off. Recently, Laila hit the major milestone of 75 career goals.

Zdancewicz said, “After I scored that goal I felt very accomplished and proud of myself. I was happy I was able to capitalize on the moment I had to score that goal.”

Some of her other accomplishments are winning districts junior and senior year, citizens voice athlete of the week junior and senior year, all state honorable mention sophomore year, 2nd team all state junior year, and she also was recently selected to try out for the USA Women’s National team.

Zdancewicz said, “I got this far from the support I have around me as well as my drive to improve every day and see how far I can push my capabilities.”

After high school she plans on attending Old Dominion University to play Division 1 field hockey and to become a Sports Psychologist.

“I’m looking forward to it a lot and I’m excited to play at a collegiate level at a school that I feel is perfect for me,” she said.

Both of these two athletes are phenomenal, dedicated, and exceptional.
