WVW Stars in the Making

On November 3rd, Wyoming Valley West High School held its first-ever ‘Open Mic Night’ to put a spotlight on the talent that walks within our halls and to raise money for the theater department!

There were eighteen acts in total to grace the stage, each student bringing something truly special. But these were not just performances; they were displays of years of dedication to each student’s craft—a display of the diverse and unique community we have at Wyoming Valley West.

“There are so many talented students here, and I wanted to give them an outlet to showcase their talents. They don’t really get the opportunity to do so,” Coordinator Ms. Kislin said.

It’s true—students often lack opportunities to demonstrate their skills and creativity. This event ensured that students were brought together to do what makes them happy while highlighting confidence and passion. Everyone was brimming with potential. Praise and recognition for the students is well-deserved!

“The people that I sang with, they all mean a lot to me. They are all very talented people and deserve to be on that stage, and I’m so glad that I got to share these moments with them,” junior Melody Kondraski exclaimed when asked why she chose to perform.

These words reflect the night perfectly. It’s clear the event went beyond the performances themselves, nurturing a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie among everyone involved. For all those who attended and enjoyed the event, it was most definitely a night to remember.

“I am so incredibly proud of everyone, especially the people involved with the band I put together… I hope that this is an annual thing because I would love for The Band Wagon to play again next year!” sophomore Ava Shaffer said.

In the end, this open mic night was much more than just a show; it was a celebration of creativity and hard work. Senior audience member Ace Shiller was asked if they would return to a future open mic night, and they said, “Yes, of course I’d return. It was so entertaining and fun, and everyone there was so talented!”
