Securly Status Check

At the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, Wyoming Valley West High School rolled out Securly, a hall monitoring app designed to help cut down on hall traffic and interruptions.

The most common disadvantage brought up has been how the hall traffic limits affect study hall. “Due to the number of students specifically in study hall groups and how large those numbers are, study hall teachers should specifically be able to increase the hall traffic limit,” said Journalism Teacher Desiree Munzing.

Frustration with Securly is shared not only by teachers but also by students. Both agree that the hall traffic limits, to a certain extent, can be distracting and aggravating.

“Anytime you try to fill out a pass, there’s hall traffic, no matter what class you’re in, and it takes time out of your day and your teacher’s day trying to figure out when you can go,” senior Lilliana Brzezinski said.

Though it has effectively cut down on hall traffic, Securly has been known to lag during class and lunch transitions.

“I think it has eased up hall traffic, but when I have hall duty during a lunch transition, you really don’t see the numbers until a couple of minutes after the transition,” said English Teacher Sarah Bozinko.

Even while Securly is still working out its bugs, some believe it has a lot of potential.

“I think there’s room for improvement, but I think the initial rollout was really, really good,” said Physics Teacher Edward Groth.

The WVW high school halls have definitely improved and become a more productive learning environment with the help of the Securly pass system.
