This fall, from Nov. 21-23 at 7 p.m., the Wyoming Valley West Theater Club held their highly anticipated annual fall drama, Puffs, a heartfelt parody of the Harry Potter series. The performances took place in the WVW High School auditorium each night.
“Puffs was written by Matt Cox and played Off-Broadway from 2017-2019. Puffs takes place during those seven years that a certain boy wizard went to a certain wizard school and conquered evil,” said the director, Miss Rachel Kislin.
Wayne Hopkins, Megan Jones, and Oliver Rivers are the main characters, who are students trying to make it through a dangerous magic school. Senior Matt Preiman, who has been acting for five years, landed the lead role of Wayne Hopkins.
“My character is kind of like a nerd, if that makes sense. He likes movies, books, and he’s just kind of really bad at magic and being a wizard,” Matt Preiman said.
The drama club put in an incredible amount of work and effort to bring this play together.
“The cast has been working so hard to portray these characters and learn the accents. It is a prop-heavy show, and not only do we have an amazing cast, but we also have an amazing stage crew,” Miss Rachel said.
In addition to the cast’s dedication, the stage crew has also put in countless hours behind the scenes.
Stage Manager Makenzie Carnecki added, “We put in lots of time. We’re there typically two days a week up until the show, and then we’re there every night that week. We also have some days where we stay all day, like on the weekends.”
The WVW production of Puffs will no doubt be a huge success due to the hard work and dedication of all members, as well as the guidance of director Miss Rachel Kislin.
